Drivers Eating Donuts with Conor Daly
May is here and the Barstool Sports Book is coming to Indiana. Just in time for the 105th running of The Greatest Spectacle In Racing. Get ready. It's the Super Bowl of IndyCar except Indianapolis hosts it every year.
Every Friday during May I'll chat with an IndyCar driver in Drivers Eating Donuts with me leading up to the Indy 500. This week, fellow Hoosier born and bred kid Conor Daly hops in with me for some donuts and a chat. We talked whether it gets boring in the car, why people underestimate the physicality of racing, his believing in aliens, top 5 mullets, which IndyCar driver has the best mancave and more.
500 miles and 250 laps of an oval in the heat of May would be a lot to handle for numerous reasons, but is there ever, even slightly, a time when you get bored in the car?
"No," Daly said. "There's always something going on. It takes forever. Especially Indy. Indy is one of those where I have looked up many times at the big pylon in the center and I'm like 'we're only on lap 60. This is crazy'…I always judge it on pitstops. It's about 5-6 pitstops so once you're like to four or five you're like 'OK here we go, we better set up to be in the right spot."
